    Barking Mad!

    01 March 2023

As dog owners we know that barking is normal dog behaviour. However excessive barking can become problematic and it can drive even the biggest of dog lovers crazy!

Not to mention it can be a source of great irritation for neighbors. It’s important to figure out why your dog may be barking excessively. So, what are some common reasons why your dog may bark? Boredom could be one. They could be lacking in exercise, mental stimulation or company. It can be hard to realise that maybe we aren’t doing enough to keep our dog stimulated but it’s a step closer to reduce them barking.

Another reason why your dog may be barking could be Separation Anxiety. We’ve covered this topic before, but essentially it’s when dogs get anxious when separated from family members. For this situation it’s best to seek help from your vet or animal behaviouralist.

Dogs like to protect their territory, and they could bark in response to people or other animals within or approaching it’s area. This could even be a passerby of your home. If they are barking at other animals or hoomans you could try to block their view of movement outside the property with shade cloth or solid fencing.

When getting down to these issues remember that in order to solve the problem you need to know when and where the barking occurs? Who or what is the target of the barking? And What things trigger the barking?
